The Frame    5200 Forbes Avenue    Carnegie Mellon  8-2081  A student-run gallery that hosts week-long shows featuring Carnegie Mellon student work. Attend the Friday night openings throughout the semester to enjoy great art, food, drink and mingling.

Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation Gallery     Carnegie Mellon www.huntbot.andrew.cmu.edu     University Hunt Library     5000 Forbes Avenue Pittsburgh 15213 Oakland 412-268-2434       The Institute is open Monday through Friday, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to noon, and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.   The gallery is open on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. during an exhibition.    The Institute established the International series in 1964 with the hope of supporting and encouraging contemporary botanical artists. Every three years, the International series features the works of talented botanical artists from around the world.

Phipps Conservatory     One Schenley Park, Oakland     Pittsburgh, PA 15213 http://phipps.conservatory.org/    Hours: Phipps is open seven days a week from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Friday for Chihuly Nights.  Commissioned as a gift to his city in 1893 by steel baron Henry Phipps, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is one of the nation's oldest and largest Victorian "glass houses." Silvered domes of glass enclose 13 garden rooms brimming with thousands of exotic plants and flowers. The 2.5 acres around Phipps continue the experience, filled with gardens, ponds and fountains.

The series focuses on emerging writers either publishing in national journals and magazines or publishing their first or second books.
